  • What does 'Projects are Temporary' Mean?
    - Temporary usually means that the project is temporary, but not the deliverable 
    - The result is to create something that will be around longer than the process it took to create it.
    - The deliverable can be temporarily or not (picnic vs skyscraper)
    - Temporary describes the market window (fads (=rage) and opportunities)
    - The project team is there temporary (or even shorter than the project lifecycle)
  • What do projects create?
    Projects either: 
    - create a thing: 
    - invent a service
    - change an environment
  • What does 'projects are unique' mean?
    - Every project you ever do is different from all the other projects you've done in the past
    - Each project has unique factors such as the time it takes, the stakeholders involved, the environment in which the project takes place etc.

    An end-thing on it's own (such as a skyscraper) or component that contribute to other projects or things

    To keep stakeholders satisfied on project progress by:
    • communicating project status
    • showing evidence of progression towards project completion
    • keeping the project constraints in balance
  • What is a project constraint? And what are examples of project constraints?
    Anything that you're required to do or maintain. Most common are time, costs and scope but also quality, resources and risk should be considered.
  • What is project integration management? And why is it important?
    It is the coordination of events happening in the various project management knowledge areas. Since what happens in one area affects what happens in other areas.
  • What is progressive elaboration?
    • It is the refinement that project components pass through to reach their final state, such as a project plan. (see figure 1.1 - page 15) 
    • Development of a project in steps and continuing by increments
    • It is an iterative process designed to fulfill the project objectives correctly and completely
  • How does progressive elaboration support a project when it moves closer to completion?
    As a project moves closer to project completion you need to revisit and monitor the needs that launched the project. Progressive collaboration helps in understanding those needs and the ability to meet those needs.
  • What are project management application areas? Why are these important?
    These are areas or disciplines in which project management can be applied. Although the project work in these areas is different between and unique for the different areas, the project management approach is basically the same for all project types.
  • What do we understand under 'The Project Environment?'
    The project environment is a term to describe the impact the project will have, good or bad, on the cultural, political, and physical environments.
  • Why is it important for the project manager to be aware of the project environment?
    The environment could influence the project's success and the project could influence the environment
  • Which project environments are being recognized?
    • Physical Environment: The physical environment where the project will take place. This includes ecology, geographical makeup and the health of the environment.
    • Cultural and Social Environment: Need to understand the impact the project has on these environments and vice-versa. The PM should also understand the autonomy he or she has within an organization and the affect the level of power will have on the project's success.
    • International and political Environment: E.g. for projects spanning multiple countries understanding local customs and laws. Also includes political consideration of international projects. And time zone differences, holidays, travel logistics, face-to-face and teleconference meetings, currency exchanges and language barriers.
  • What do we mean with 'Enterprise Environmental Factors'?
    The specific conditions of the environment of a project. The conditions, rules, policies, and culture within which the project must operate.
