• What does recognition stand for?

  Tourism not being recognized as a subject because some analyst view it as an industry, while others view it as a subject or a process.

• What does " terminology" stands for?

  Wide range of jargon used (e.g. Alternative,responsible, sustainable tourism) that refers to facets of the same issue. This is annoying for students and researches just because of the lack of universally agreed definitions

• What do you understand within the term " data sources " as a difficulty while studying tourism?

  The data sources available to tourism researchers are weak  compared with those available for other subjects.

• What do you understand within the term " Rigour" as a difficulty while studying tourism?

  There's still suspicion about the intellectual rigour with which tourism researches approach their subject. This is made more difficult by the tendency for non-specialist to dabble in this area of research.

• What do you understand within the term " Theory" as a difficulty while studying tourism?

  There's no theoritical constructs or theory which explain the development and internal dynamics of tourism as a process of global economic and social change have been developed.  Thus, tourism remains theoritically devoid as a subject area. Altough there is evidence that this situation is changing slowly. The absence of theoretically derived research remains a major weakness for students and researchers.

• What do you understand within the term " Academic/practitioner divide" as a difficulty while studying tourism?
